 পরদিন ব্রাহ্মণের বাড়িতে মনের আনন্দ ও কৃতজ্ঞতা জানাইতে আসিয়া সাঁওতাল প্রায় কাঁদিয়া ফেলিল। সে কহিল- আপনি কি মানুষ না দেবতা? এই কারমাটার শহরে একটি লোকও আমার দিকে ফিরে চাননি; আপনার দয়ায় আমি আমার স্ত্রীকে ফিরে পেয়েছি। একটা মেথরের স্ত্রীকে বাঁচাবার জন্য মানুষ কি কখনও এমন কাজ করতে পারে? আমি বড়ো দরিদ্র-আপনাকে কী দিতে পারি? শুনিয়া অনেকে হয়তো জিজ্ঞাসা করিবে, কে এই ব্রাহ্মণ? এই ব্রাহ্মণের নাম ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র বিদ্যাসাগর।
