Terrible Food in North Bengal.
North Bengal is facing one of the worst flood in recent years due to continuous heavy rainfall and overflowing of major rivers like Teesta, Jaldhaka and Torsa. Several districts including Jalpaiguri, Alipur Duar, Cooch Beher and Darjeeling have been severally affected. Thousands of people have lost their homes and are taking shelter in relief camps set up by government.
At least 25 people died and more than 150 were injured .Around 160 houses were destroyed and 300 houses were partially damaged. Thousands of trees and electric poles were uprooted. Communication systems have broken down in many places. A huge quantity of crops were totally damaged.
Rescue operations by NDRF, army and Administration are in full swing. food, drinking water and medical aid are being provided to the affected people. The injured persons were taken to nearby hospitals.
Experts believed that, deforestation, climate change and unplanned construction have worsened the flood situation in North Bengal.
The government has announced ta compensation for the victims. However it will take a Long time for life to return normal .The flood has once again remind us of the Importance of protecting nature and maintaining proper drainage systems to prevent such disasters in the future.
