আমরা এবার প্রাচীন যুগের আর একটি দেশের কথা আলোচনা করিব। ইহার নাম ব্যাবিলোনিয়া। খ্রিস্টপূর্ব ৭০০০ বৎসর হইতে আরম্ভ হয়। কত পুরাতন ইতিহাস একবার ভাবিয়া দেখো । এই সুদীর্ঘকালের কথা কল্পনা করিতেও আমরা বিস্ময়ে অবাক হয়ে যাই। ইহার সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ রাজা নিবুচডনাজারের বিষয়ে তোমাদের কিছু জানা উচিত। খ্রিস্টপূর্ব ৬৫০ সালে তিনি সিংহাসনে আরোহণ করেন। তাঁহার রাজধানী ছিল ব্যাবিলন । এই শহরটি টাইগ্রিস ও ইউফ্রেটিস নদীর সংযোগস্থলে অবস্থিত ছিল। প্রাচীন যুগের সমস্ত শহরের মধ্যে ইহার মতো বৃহৎ ও সমদ্ধিশালী শহর আর ছিল না । এখানকার শূন্যোদ্যান ছিল সে প্রাচীন যুগের একটি বিস্ময় ।
