 রেলগাড়ি এক স্টেশনে আসিয়া উপস্থিত হইল। এক ভদ্রলোক রেলগাড়ি হইতে নামিয়া 'কুলি' 'কুলি' বলিয়া ডাকিতে লাগিলেন। তাঁহার সঙ্গে একটি ছোটো ব্যাগ ছিল। এই ব্যাগটির ভারও অধিক ছিল না। সেই ছোটো স্টেশনে কোনো কুলি না পাওয়ায় ভদ্রলোকটি অত্যন্ত বিপন্ন হইলেন। এমন সময় একজন অপরিচিত লোক ভদ্রলোকটির সামনে উপস্থিত হইল। সে বলিল, "মহাশয়, আপনি এ ব্যাগটি লইবার জন্য একটি কুলি ডাকিতেছেন, আসুন আমি এটি লইয়া যাইতেছি।” নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে পৌঁছাইলে, ভদ্রলোকটি বাহককে কয়েকটি পয়সা দিতে গেলেন। সেই অপরিচিত ব্যক্তি হাসিয়া বলিল, "আমি কুলি নই, আমার নাম ঈশ্বরচন্দ্র শর্মা।" ভদ্রলোকটি লজ্জায় মস্তক অবনত করিলেন।
