 এক বৃদ্ধ কৃষকের সম্বন্ধে একটি সুন্দর গল্প আছে। তাহার মৃত্যুকাল উপস্থিত দেখিয়া সে তাহার অলস পুত্রগণকে একটি গোপনীয় কথা বলিয়া যাইবার নিমিত্ত তাহার শয্যার পার্শ্বে ডাকিয়া কহিল, "পুত্রগণ, আমি যে ক্ষেত্রটি রাখিয়া যাইতেছি তাহাতে প্রচুর গুপ্তধন নিহিত আছে।" এই মাত্র বলিতেই বৃদ্ধের শ্বাসরোধ হইয়া আসিলও। তাহার পুত্রগণ সমস্বরে বলিয়া উঠিল, "ক্ষেত্রটির কোন্ স্থানে উহা আছে।" বৃদ্ধ বলিল, “খুঁড়িলেই গুপ্তধন পাইবে।” এই বলিতে বলিতেই তাহার শ্বাসরোধ হইয়া মৃত্যু হইল। গুপ্তধন ঠিক কোন্ স্থানে আছে তাহা আর তাহার পুত্ররা জানিতে পারিল না। তবে ওই বৎসর ওই ক্ষেত্রটিতে প্রভুত শস্য জন্মাইয়াছিল। ইহাই গুপ্তধন।
