 যে স্বয়ং চেষ্টা করে ঈশ্বর তাহার সহায় হন। পৃথিবীতে যাঁহারা বড়ো হইয়াছেন, তাঁহাদের জীবনী হইতে আমরা এই শিক্ষাই পাইয়া থাকি। বিদ্যাই হোক আর ধনই হোক, স্বয়ং পরিশ্রম না করিলে কেহ তাহা লাভকরিতে পারে না। এক রাজপুত্র এক পণ্ডিতকে বলিয়াছিলেন, "মহাশয়, সাধারণ লোক পরিশ্রম করিয়া বিদ্যাশিক্ষা করিতে পারে, তাহাদের পরিশ্রম করিবার অভ্যাস আছে'। কিন্তু আমি রাজপুত্র, আমার জন্য কি কোনও সহজ উপায় বাহির করিতে পারেন না?” পণ্ডিত ঈষৎ হাসিয়া বলিলেন, "কুমার, এ বিষয়ে রাজাপ্রজা- উভয়েই সমান, রাজার বিদ্যাশিক্ষার স্বতন্ত্র কোনো উপায় নাই।"
