 ভ্রমর শুনিয়াই পিতাকে আনিতে লোক পাঠাইলেন। শুনিবামাত্র মাধবীনাথ কন্যার নিকট আসিলেন। ভ্রমর তাঁহাকে পঞ্চাশ হাজার টাকা বাহির করিয়া দিয়া সজলনয়নে বলিলেন, "বাবা এখন যা করতে হয় করো। দেখিয়ো আমি আত্মহত্যা না করি।" মাধবীনাথ কাঁদিতে কাঁদিতে বলিলেন, "মা, নিশ্চিন্ত থাকিয়ো, আমি আজই যশোহরে যাত্রা করিলাম। কোন চিন্তা করিয়ো না। গোবিন্দলাল যে খুন করিয়াছেন তাহার কোনো প্রমাণ নাই। আমি প্রতিজ্ঞা করিয়া যাইতেছি যে, তোমার আটচল্লিশ হাজার টাকা বাঁচাইয়া আনিব আর আমার জামাইকে দেশে আনিব।"
