 পাঞ্জাবে তখন ছোটোবড়ো অনেকগুলি রাজ্য ছিল। সকলে মিলিয়া যদি আলেকজান্ডারের সহিত যুদ্ধ করিত তাহা হইলে কী হইত বলা যায় না'। কিন্তু তাহা হইল না। বরং তক্ষশিলার রাজা সন্ধি করিয়া আলেকজান্ডারের অধীনতা স্বীকার করিয়া লইলেন। শুধু পুরুরাজ আলেকজান্ডারের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করিলেন। কিন্তু তিনি পরাজিত হইলেন। তবে আলেকজান্ডার তাঁহার বীরত্বে মুগ্ধ হইয়া তাঁহাকে রাজ্য ফিরাইয়া দিলেন। এইরূপে আলেকজান্ডার সমগ্র পাঞ্জাবই অধিকার করিলেন।
